The Nintendo Switch may be on the verge of being succeeded by an improved and more powerful Switch 2 console but Nintendo still thinks it has enough grunt for new video games. At the first Nintendo Direct 2024 event, several indie and large-scale developers took to the stage to announce a bunch of new games that will be hitting the Switch in the coming months.
From adaptations to remasters, players on Nintnedo’s ageing handheld will be enjoying an arsenal of new video games as well as experience some of Nintendo’s classic titles from the online store.
One of the biggest announcements came from Xbox, which had earlier promised to publish a few of its Xbox and PC exclusives to other platforms. Grounded and Pentiment, two of their highly acclaimed games, are coming to the Switch. Similarly, Aspyr is also bringing the highly acclaimed classic versions of the two Star Wars Battlefront games to the Switch alongside Steam, Xbox and PlayStation. There’s even a remastered version of a game involving everyone’s favourite Mickey Mouse.
With no signs of a Switch 2 on the horizon (yet), Nintendo has given existing owners of the Switch many reasons to pick up their consoles once more and dive into countless hours of entertaining video games.
Let’s take a look at some of the most exciting upcoming video games for the Switch announced at the Nintendo Direct event in February 2024.
Upcoming Nintendo Switch games announced at Direct 2024
Grounded
Regarded as one of many critically acclaimed Xbox exclusives, Grounded is heading to the Nintendo Switch on 16 April. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, Grounded is a survival video game where you play as a kid shrunk to the size of insects in the backyard of your house and you have your friends for company.
Other than surviving creepy insects and other ‘giant’ animals in several biomes of the backyard, the objective is to collect every morsel of food and water droplet while building shelters with available materials.
Pentiment
✨ Pentiment is now available for digital purchase on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. ✨ Step into a living, breathing world inspired by illuminated manuscripts in this historical narrative-driven game.https://t.co/Az2rGzDMat pic.twitter.com/SAKUGDQDWV

Another highly acclaimed Xbox exclusive from Obsidian Entertainment is now available on the Nintendo Switch. Pentiment is a historical narrative adventure video game set in the 16th-century Bavarian Alps when the world witnessed a lot of social and religious upheaval.
As Andreas Maler, a journeyman artist who gets embroiled in a series of murders that rock the quiet town of Tassing and Kiersau Abbey, you have to make every decision carefully, keeping in mind that every choice will have an outcome.
Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist
Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist is an upcoming gothic action platformer developed by Binary Haze Interactive which will be released for the Nintendo Switch in 2024. You play as Lilac, a young woman who reluctantly teams up with a homunculus named Kael to save the land from the corruption of magical resources.
The gameplay will involve fast-paced action combat and the gothic art style is expected to impress players on the Nintendo Switch.
Star Wars Battlefront: Classic Collection
The classic Battlefront series titles from the Star Wars video game franchise are a cult hit and Aspyr is now bringing both of them to the Nintendo Switch on 14 March. The Star Wars Battlefront: Classic Collection will include Star Wars: Battlefront and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 in the package.
The teaser video revealed no major retouching to the graphics or the gameplay. The Switch version will come with the Hero Assault mode, an arena where you can play as Luke Skywalker and Kit Fisto against villains like Darth Vader and General Grievous.
Unicorn Overlord
Unicorn Overlord is a new tactical RPG video game coming to the Switch on 8 March alongside PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. With a signature hand-drawn art style, an immersive orchestral soundtrack, multiple difficulty levels and branching story paths, this is a video game to keep an eye on for fantasy RPG fans.
Monster Hunter Stories
Released in 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS, Monster Hunter Stories will be ported to the Switch console with enhanced graphics and full voice acting. Unlike the mainline Monster Hunter games where you slay the monsters, Monster Hunter Stories makes you befriend monsters as riders and embark upon a quest to change the world. This turn-by-turn RPG also has a sequel on the Switch that was released in 2021.
Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed
Disney’s Epic Mickey: Rebrushed will be coming to the Switch later this year. This will be a remastered version of the original 3D platformer released in 2010 on the Nintendo Wii with certain graphical and gameplay enhancements. In the shoes of Mickey armed with a paintbrush and thinner, you are thrown into a wasteland full of Disney’s forgotten characters and your job will be to save them from a shadow blob.
World of Goo 2
Releasing as the sequel to World of Goo after 15 years, World of Goo 2 promises to be more gooier with more levels and lots of goo balls. You have to rely on those funny yet satisfactory goo balls to traverse a beautiful yet tricky world full of obstacles and treacherous living creatures.
The game will be released on the Nintendo Switch on 23 May 2024.
South Park: Snow Day
If you love South Park, Question and THQ Nordic are bringing a 3D open-world co-op adventure video game to the Nintendo Switch on 26 March 2024. South Park: Snow Day puts you in the middle of a snowclad town where you get to team up with Cartman, Stan, Kenny and Kyle and fight other teams or factions to save the won from an endless winter. You get to forge special weapons that can be upgraded and fight special bosses to make progress in the story.
Another Crab’s Treasure
Another Crab’s Treasure is an adventure video game coming to the Nintendo Switch on 25 April. As Kril the hermit crab in a crumbling underwater world, you’ll need to wear the trash around you as shells to withstand attacks from other crabs and marine life and embark on an epic treasure hunt to buy back your repossessed shell.
This 3D platformer, with its beautifully designed world, vibrant graphics and an interesting gameplay concept, should make it worth playing.
Contra: Operation Galuga
Contra defined a generation of video gamers in the ’80s and with Contra: Operation Galuga, Konami is bringing back the nostalgia in 2024. Contra: Operation Galuga will reintroduce the classic run-n-gun style gameplay in a 2D world created with modern-day graphics. You can have another teammate by your side or go solo while traversing a challenging world full of enemies and bosses with non-stop shooting and explosions.
It is releasing on 12 March.
Kingdom Come Deliverance: Royal Edition
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is coming to the Nintendo Switch on 15 March with all the DLC content combined as part of the Royal Edition. This open-world RPG game is set in the historical world of the Roman Empire and emphasizes skill-based combat, historical accuracy and player choice.
The game is notorious for its skill-based combat that requires you to master timing and footwork to defeat your enemies. Unlike other video games, you rely on your skills solely to improve your gameplay and the dynamic reputation system alters how other players interact with you.
Endless Ocean Luminous
The Endless Ocean franchise is back from the dead and will be hitting the Nintendo Switch exclusively on 2 May. The previous instalments, which were released on the Wii, were known to offer a chill vibe in an undersea world full of marine life.
With Endless Ocean Luminous, players will get to explore the depths of the Veiled Sea and discover both existing as well as extinct creatures (like an aquatic dinosaur). Every time the player dives in, the Veiled Sea will change, which will encourage exploration repeatedly. The multiplayer mode will allow up to 30 players to dive in together and share their discoveries.
