From Rise of the Ronin to the PS VR2, here’s what to expect at the first PlayStation State of Play in 2024.
PlayStation has had a stellar year. The PlayStation 5 outsold the Xbox Series X and S, and Sony has the ambitious goal of selling 25 million consoles by the end of March as per IGN. There are also plenty of games to look forward to that will be released on the PS5 this year, like Final Fantasy: Rebirth, which is set to be released this month. To give gamers the lowdown on what they can look forward to, PlayStation has announced their very first State of Play for the year 2024—and it’s happening tomorrow, Bangkok time.

PlayStation State of Play 2024: What to expect and how to watch
For the noobs: What is State of Play?
State of Play is to PlayStation what keynotes are to Apple. It’s PlayStation’s way of unveiling new titles, offering a glimpse into games that are being worked on, and updating gamers on tech related to the PlayStation. The video programme is streamed live on their Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook channels.
How often does State of Play happen?
There’s no specific number of times State of Play is held. Make sure you follow PlayStation’s socials so you get updated when a new one is going to go live.
What can we expect in tonight’s State of Play?
The PlayStation blog post that announced the video event specified Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, two highly-anticipated games that will get “extended looks”. That probably means not just trailers but in-depth gameplay.
Hideo Kojima, ever so cryptic, posted the State of Play announcement on his IG. Is this a signal to keep a lookout for him during the stream? Are we getting details on the Death Stranding sequel?
Despite Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth nearing its release date, there’s probably going to be one last look at the game. Other titles to look out for include Ubisoft’s pirate epic Skull and Bones as well as their Star Wars-set title Star Wars: Outlaws; then there’s Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the remake of the critically acclaimed PS2 game; finally, Silent Hill 2, which I really hope we get a gameplay trailer for.
The blog post also stated that the 40-minute broadcast will “feature guest appearances from some of the most talented minds in gaming” (Kojima-san?) and also offer a look at PS VR2 titles.
Where and when can we watch the State of Play?
The first State of Play of 2024 kicks off on January 31, 10pm GMT (February 1, 9pm Bangkok time), and will be streamed on PlayStation’s YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok.
