Here’s everything you need to know about the recently revealed 51-100 list for Asia’s 50 Best Bars, including four Malaysian bars.
On 9 July, Asia’s 50 Best Bars announced the entities on this year’s 51-100 list — and it includes not one but four bars from Malaysia. This is the fourth time that the organisation is unveiling the extended list; one week before the reveal of the main list on 16 July in Hong Kong.
The Malaysian bars that made it to the latest 51-100 list comprise three from Kuala Lumpur and one from Penang. The former includes Coley at 56th, Coley at 70th and Junglebird at 80th. Meanwhile, Georgetown-based establishment Backdoor Bodega took the 52nd spot; representing Penang. These cocktail bars are renowned institutions in Malaysia and are thoroughly appreciated for being trailblazers in the local F&B scene.
In addition, the Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2024 51-100 list also consists of eight bars from Singapore (including the 57th place Republic), six spots in Bangkok (such as Tropic City) and five for Tokyo (like Tokyo Confidential at No. 53). Seoul’s Soko is named on the 51st position and hence, the highest on the extended list. Other places named on the list are Hong Kong, New Delhi, Taipei, Tainan, Ho Chi Minh City, Nara, Shanghai, Mumbai, Kumamoto, Kyoto, Hanoi, Jakarta and first-timer, Muntinlupa City.
On the list, Head of Content for Asia’s 50 Best Bars, Emma Sleight said: “We are thrilled to welcome this diverse cohort of bars on the 51-100 list as part of this year’s 50 Best rankings. Since introducing the extended list in 2021, we have been consistently impressed by the innovative drinking experiences Asia has to offer, and it is beyond exciting to see the large number of new entries and new destinations that have made the list this year. With this recognition, we are hopeful that more bar talent will step forward annually, creating fresh and dynamic cocktail experiences for enthusiasts across the region”.
