The Escapism Issue
This July, we’re taking the fast train to stardom. Sabrina Bahsoon, aka “Tube Girl”, graces our digital cover this month as she is adorned with stunning pieces from the Cartier Trinity collection, embodying the meaning of ‘universal icon’ as an arbiter of fashion, beauty and iconic behaviour. Since being thrown into the spotlight after the #TubeGirlEffect on TikTok, Sabrina has not had a moment of quietude as she dances her way up the social scale — and she’s certainly not looking to stop just yet.
On The Cover: Sabrina Bahsoon
The #TubeGirlEffect is well and thriving. Since her shot to Internet fame, Sabrina Bahsoon has lived through a whirlwind of non-stop activity: she’s mingled with megastars on and off the tube; she’s made her grand fashion debut in London, Paris and more; she was recently announced as the global ambassador for MAC (the first-ever Malaysian to be appointed so!); and she’s thinking about venturing into music as we speak. In the wake of her growing popularity, Sabrina opens up about the journey getting to where she is today, how she achieved that unapologetic confidence that created the #TubeGirlEffect, and what it means to ‘escape’.

The Art of Being ‘Real’
“I don’t know, sometimes I look back and I think, ‘Why in the world?’ But I was just really lucky. And I think what was super important as well is that because I didn’t come from the industry, I didn’t have a certain way of ‘how to act’. I think people just appreciated the realness or the genuine interest in the industry. They appreciated that I was just grateful to be there.”
Escapism as Confidence-Building
“I feel escaping into your own world is so important, because it makes you realise that nobody is watching you as much as you think they are. They have their own lives. So, it’s a way to realise, ‘I should just do what I want and be in my own world because it is my life.’”
Just Be Yourself
"I’ve been told so many times that I can’t do this (or that). I’ve been told some of the craziest things. But as a model now, I have this mindset of, ‘I can be whoever I want to be.’ It’s just a way to express myself, and escape the negatives of it. I’m just gonna do my own thing. Nobody can tell me otherwise.”
