Review: Lloyd’s Inn offers a tranquil escape in the heart of Kuala Lumpur

Wondering how it’s like to stay at Lloyd’s Inn in Kuala Lumpur? Check out our review right here to find out.

When it was first unveiled that Kuala Lumpur will be home to a new Lloyd’s Inn location, excitement and anticipation ran high. The brand joins a list of beautiful and brilliant boutique hotels situated in Kuala Lumpur — bringing along its charm and beloved attributes. First unveiled in Singapore’s Orchard area and then in Bali, Lloyd’s Inn was designed with the goal of offering a modern and relaxing space.

The Kuala Lumpur outpost of Lloyd’s Inn also carries its iconic raw nature-inspired aesthetics but there’s one component that sets it apart from the rest. The 110-room hotel is the first of its kind to be a high-rise building — spanning 15 floors in total. Situated within walking distance of The Exchange TRX, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, The Starhill and more, it’s clear why Lloyd’s Inn (with its lush plants on the building exterior) would be a choice for tourists and locals alike.

Designed by Singaporean firm FARM Architect, Lloyd’s Inn’s very DNA can be seen throughout the Kuala Lumpur hotel. From raw finishes and the floor to the cement walls, the concept stays true to the brand’s ethos. In a way, there’s a sense of connection to nature without having to leave the city. When it comes to sustainability, natural ventilation at the hotel corridors plays a massive role alongside the utilisation of paper amenities and pump dispensers.

We had the opportunity to check out Lloyd’s Inn for ourselves and here’s our little review.

To the room, we go!

Lloyd’s Inn KL — which opened on 1 April 2024 — comprises 110 rooms. Every room is created with comfort and simplicity in mind. Room types (ranging from 17s square metres to 50 square metres) include The Standard Room, The Business Room, The Big Sky Room and The Garden Room among others.

During our stay there, we had the pleasure of checking into The Sky Room; a spacious and tasteful two-storey unit. The mix of brown, black and white hues invoke a feeling of ease as you open the door to your room. With the stairs towards the bed on the left and an open space right across that leads to the outdoor patio, it truly feels like it’s time to fully unwind. And yes, we all deserve to take a little breather.

What we really love in The Sky Room is the outdoor bathtub and the hanging cubby swing couch. Whether you’re enjoying a down time among colourful bubbles or reading a book, you get to be a part of the city and yet be in your own little world. To complete the experience, there’s also a rack for you to hang your clothes, a desk to get work done and a comfortable King bed.

What else is here?

Lloyd’s Inn Kuala Lumpur is more than just a place for you to stay the night. It comprises an exquisitely-designed dipping pool area situated right at the lobby. The blue and white tiles in the pool blend delightfully with the grey, industrial pillars. On the 15th floor, you will find The Social Pod — a space where you can get your tasks done. Even better, there’s a water dispenser to get your refills too. We love the natural lighting during the day that further enhances the allure of the minimal yet stunning design.

Those looking for a bite or two can head over to Opeum Bistro on the fifth floor. The hotel’s all-day dining restaurant — helmed by Chef Sharon Gonzago (‘MasterChef Singapore’ finalist) and Chef Izzat Omar — the go-to spot for contemporary twists on heritage dishes. Malaysian flavours and local ingredients take centre stage at Opeum Bistro, which is also the location for a hearty breakfast in the morning. On the menu, concoctions include the likes of Mutton Masala, Spiced Coated Chicken Wings, Lamb Kuzi, Asam Pedas with Barramundi Nyonya Yam Roll among others.

Speaking about breakfast, we had the options between a decadent rice bowl with chicken bites and a tantalising continental plate. For the uninitiated, breakfast is complimentary to every hotel guest. While the selection isn’t extensive, it’s an adequate spread featuring cereals, fruits and bread. If you need your morning caffeine fix, you can request for a hot or iced black.

There’s also The Tea Room where you can savour a plethora of blends. For example, Osmanthus Opulence consists of Tie Kuan Yin Oolong Tea, Osmanthus Flowers and Osmanthus Essence whereas Emerald Mint is made with Chinese Gunpowder Green Tea and Spearmint. Pair your drink with a snack like Money Bag or a dessert like the Nangka Crème Brulee.

Thoughts?

All in all, we find Lloyd’s Inn to be an ideal hotel to check into — be it for its calming aesthetics, close vicinity to Kuala Lumpur landmarks or comfortable amenities. You can find a tremendous amount of restaurants and cafes nearby including the newly opened Grumpy Bagels and eatery OGA, Indian restaurant Flour, the popular Hai Kah Lang as well as classic bakery Levain. So, one thing’s for sure; you will never be short of culinary options.

There’s something for everyone at Lloyd’s Inn KL whether you’re visiting or planning to do a staycation. The hotel is easy, no-frills and provides a well-curated overall experience which begins from the moment you arrive at the lobby on Level Five.
