#Exposed: 5 Things you didn’t know about Adil Luca

Malaysian actor Adil Luca is truly one to watch as he ventures into the local entertainment scene. Find out more about the fencer-turned-actor here.

Here are five things you might not know about Adil Luca:

#1 | Adil’s first acting role was as a French teacher.

Starting his acting career in Indonesia, Adil’s foray into the industry began with a role as French teacher who have lived in Indonesia for ten years. Hence, he learned to speak Bahasa Indonesia in a French accent for Viu’s ‘Marriage With Benefits’. Part of that included binge-watching ‘Emily In Paris’ on Netflix and learning an online language platform. “So I started as a ‘Mat Salleh’ role and slowly moved on to being an Indonesian local role,” he expressed.

#2 | His dream role is someone like Joe Goldberg from ‘You’.

As an actor, Adil has played a businessman and the third person in a love triangle. His dream role, though, would be akin to Joe Goldberg from the Netflix series ‘You’ — portrayed by Penn Badgley. “On the surface, an average Joe but has a very multi-dimensional character, mysterious and mischievous. Captivating yet perilous, commanding yet sadistic, affectionate yet veiled in secrecy and deception,” said Adil.

#3 | Adil recently founded mental health organisation Hati Hotel.

“It’s a mental health community conceptualised as a hotel,” he conveys. The actor established Hati Hotel because “mental illness amongst Malaysians continues to increase despite the efforts by local organisations”. Created as a fresh approach towards overcoming mental health stigma, Hati Hotel with its tagline of “Where The Heart Speaks” aims to be the place where anyone can check in both physically and emotionally.

#4 | He studied Economics in the United States.

Adil majored in Economics at University of California, Berkeley where he studied for four years. “I always knew that fencing was a part-time thing that I loved, but I was always focused on business. That’s why even after college and stuff, I knew my plan was to go to university and just learn,” he mentions. After graduation, he worked at a local private equity firm, Ekuiti Nasional.

#5 | Adil describes himself as a creative person.

“Although I love business, I’ve always been a very creative person. I enjoy creative things,” expresses Adil. The ‘Layangan Putus: The Movie’ star explored that side of him by learning to design apps and softwares. His background as a UX Designer has also helped him with his acting process. “I always begin with empathising with the character, that is, I research the context, motivations, and relationships, much like understanding user needs, goals, and behaviours in UX design,” he adds.
