The modern tale of Wangsa Maju and what MCL Land has to offer

MCL Land (a Hongkong Land company) has long-term plans for Wangsa Maju — adding to the already existing developments.

Think you know your Kuala Lumpur geography well? The capital of Malaysia is a melting pot of many cultures, styles, and traditions. In fact, the city is made up of numerous suburbs; each with their very own characteristics. Now, let’s put your knowledge to the test. How many suburbs (or neighbourhoods) in the capital of Malaysia can you name?

From Ampang to Melawati to Setapak, these suburbs all help bring life and uniqueness to KL. One specific area in the city that’s noteworthy is, of course, Wangsa Maju — a former rubber estate that was given a modern transformation into a town starting in 1984. Considered among the largest in KL, Wangsa Maju is surrounded by beautiful scenic views, hills, and greeneries. It’s clear that Wangsa Maju has enjoyed tremendous growth since its humble beginning. The truth is: Wangsa Maju is still growing — and with the city centre of Kuala Lumpur located only approximately eight kilometres away, that comes without surprise.

At the moment, you’ll be able to traverse throughout Wangsa Maju and discover a plethora of amenities in the area. They include parks; education institutions such as Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology, Fairview International School, and The International School of Kuala Lumpur; shopping malls like Wangsa Walk Mall, Melawati Mall, and KL East Mall; as well as transportation facilities that comprise Karak Highway, Duta Ulu-Kelang Expressway (DUKE), Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH), and Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).

The fun doesn’t stop there. Wangsa Maju will soon benefit from some much-anticipated upcoming projects, including Sungai Besi–Ulu Klang Elevated Expressway (SUKE), Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE), Gombak Integrated Transport Terminal (GITT), East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), and MRT 3. With these additions, Malaysians are definitely expecting a more seamless and smoother travel experience in the future.

Just the like the popular saying, Wangsa Maju wasn’t built in a day either. Various parties have been involved and contributed to the suburb’s growth; and among them is premium developer, MCL Land, a wholly-owned company by Hongkong Land. MCL Land has established a legacy of building quality homes in both Singapore and Malaysia, and is responsible for some notable developments like Wangsa Walk Mall, Riana Green East, and Seri Riana. The developer — part of the Jardine Matheson Group that also owns Cycle & Carriage Bintang, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Cold Storage, Giant, and Guardian among others — has a strategic and sustainable long-term plan when it comes to developing properties and land in Wangsa Maju. Furthermore, MCL Land has recently partnered with Beam Mobility on its sustainability effort to encourage e-mobility in Wangsa Maju; playing a part in Kuala Lumpur Low Carbon Society Blueprint 2030.

Part of that plan by MCL Land comprises the 42-storey Quinn, named after the word ‘quintessential’. The low-density residential project, featuring 361 spacious units (with one-to-four-bedroom layouts), has achieved 90% of sales. Oh, there’s more! Quinn is also a proud recipient of two international awards — The Best Residential High Rise Development in Malaysia and The Best Apartment in Malaysia – Asia Pacific Property Award 2021/2022 — even before completion.

In addition, Quinn, with its future-proof design (removable walls) as well as sleek and modern architecture, is a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) due to its location right next to the Sri Rampai LRT station. It’s also only six stops away from KLCC. By the end of 2022, MCL Land aims to begin work on another exciting project, aptly called Phase 2 for now. MCL Land sought the expertise and prowess of Singaporean architecture practice, Architects 61, for its maiden project in Malaysia.

Both MCL Land and Hongkong Land (a major property investment, management, and development group) don’t just aim to empower and inspire communities, the developers tango and work with the objective of impacting how people live and engage through properties they design, build, and manage. Fun fact: Hongkong Land is responsible for more than 850,000 square metres of office and luxury retail properties in key Asian cities, principally Hong Kong, Singapore, Beijing, and Jakarta. Its properties attract the world’s foremost companies and luxury brands.

Hence, it goes without saying that the future of development (residential and commercial) in the suburb of Wangsa Maju is in good hands — especially with developer MCL Land at the forefront of things. So, the all-important question we have for you now is: did you include Wangsa Maju in your list of Kuala Lumpur suburbs earlier? If you did, well done!
