It’s going to rain new smartphones this monsoon!
After a rather uneventful June, smartphone brands are returning to the stage with new and exciting announcements. The biggest one of them all will be from Samsung, which is planning to reveal the next generation of its foldables. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 are expected to double down on efficient performance tuned for AI features.
Another hyped release for July will come from CMF, the value-centric sub-brand of Nothing. The CMF Phone (1) is rumoured to be an economical alternative to the Nothing Phone (2a), featuring an opaque rear back and a mysterious rear dial. The specifications are expected to be largely borrowed from the Phone (2a) and is expected to be a solid phone in the budget segment.
Beyond Samsung and CMF, the smartphone market is also expected to see a lot of activity from brands like Vivo, Honor, Redmi and Motorola. The Honor 200 5G will be an entirely new offering in the midrange segment focusing solely on style and camera, something which has been Vivo’s forte. Hence, Vivo will be marking its presence in the segment with the V40 series and its Zeiss-branded optics.

Upcoming phones releasing in July 2024
CMF Phone (1)
Release date: 8 July 2024
Category: Budget
Nobody was expecting the CMF Phone (1) to arrive, especially after the budget-centric Nothing Phone (2a). Nothing’s value-obsessed sub-brand wants to kickstart its innings in a highly competitive budget phone segment and based on the early rumours, it seems it has got the ingredients right.
Teaser images and videos from CMF hint at a new physical dial-like interface located on the back of the phone and a screw bolted to the phone’s interiors. Rumours say that the dial could be the gimmicky aspect of CMF’s phones, just like Nothing’s Glyph lights. The rest of its specifications are expected to be borrowed from the Nothing Phone (2a), including the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset and a dual 50-megapixel rear camera system. We expect the pricing to be on par with Nothing’s most affordable smartphone, if not lower.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is expected to be an iterative upgrade over last year’s impressive Galaxy Z Flip 5. While design and other core aspects are likely to remain unchanged, the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip will deliver the same kind of performance as other 2024 flagship Android phones. Coupled with a larger 4,000mAh battery, this efficient Qualcomm chip could finally make the Galaxy Z Flip 6 a reliable all-day phone.
Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite of generative AI features will be central to the Flip 6’s experience. However, Samsung is also upgrading the main rear camera with a 50-megapixel sensor to allow for better low-light photography and a nicer overall videography experience. Industry insiders hint at a price bump over its predecessor when Samsung releases it later in July.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6

Unlike its flippy sibling, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is rumoured to be a bigger upgrade as Samsung readies its flagship foldable to fend off newfound threats from Vivo, OnePlus and Google. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 will go for a new aspect ratio that accommodates brighter displays with slimmer bezels. The fold crease is said to be reduced as Samsung will employ an updated hinge mechanism to keep it smooth.
The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is expected to deliver a notable boost in performance and we also expect some gains in the performance department. With the Galaxy AI suite as one of its core features, the S Pen stylus could make it an ultimate productivity powerhouse.
OnePlus Nord 4

Category: Midrange
Initially rumoured to come out in June, OnePlus is now expected to reveal the Nord 4 in July as its feature-packed mid-range smartphone. The Nord 4 is likely to be based on the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 platform, which is a beefy chipset offering the same levels of performance as flagship phones from 2022.
OnePlus could also upgrade the battery to 5,500mAh capacity and offer 100W fast wired charging to fill it up faster than its predecessor. Most importantly, a new 50-megapixel Sony LYT600 image sensor for the main camera is expected to improve photography – an Achilles heel for the Nord series phones.
Vivo V40 series

The Vivo V40 series was revealed to Europe soon after the Vivo V30 Pro’s launch and is now slated to come to India. Continuing on the laurels of its predecessor, the Vivo V40 will feature Zeiss-branded optics and a couple of proprietary filters borrowed from the flagship X100 smartphone. A new design for the rear camera module along with the IP68 certification for water and dust resistance distinguishes it from its predecessor.
The Vivo V40 will be based on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 platform and feature a 50-megapixel Eye Autofocus selfie camera. Other notable highlights include a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS and another 50-megapixel sensor with an ultrawide lens, a 5,500mAh battery and support for 80W charging.
Redmi 13 5G

The budget segment is overseeing a lot of activity lately and Xiaomi is set to turn up the flame with the Redmi 13 5G. For a phone in the budget segment, the Redmi 13 5G distinguishes itself from the rest with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, a 108-megapixel main rear camera sensor, a 5,030mAh battery with 33W wired charging, a glass rear panel and Xiaomi’s HyperOS interface based on Android 14. The Redmi 13 5G could appeal to those who seek a stylish phone without spending a fortune.
Honor 200 5G

The mostly dormant Honor is waking up in July to bring us the Honor 200 5G – a new midrange phone taking on the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus and the upcoming OnePlus Nord 4.
Similar to Vivo, Honor’s focus with its phones mostly centres around style and cameras. Hence, the Honor 200 5G flaunts a stylish new design and an AI-assisted rear camera system, the latter including a 50-megapixel sensor for the main shooter, another 50-megapixel sensor for the telephoto lens and a 12-megapixel ultrawide shooter. The phone is based on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 platform and will be backed by a 5,200mAh battery, the latter being charged by a 100W wired charging solution.
Moto G85 5G

After the popularity of the Moto G84 5G, Motorola is readying its successor with a host of upgrades that could blow its competition out of the water. The Moto G85 5G will be faster and more premium to use than its predecessor.
Based on the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset, the Moto G85 5G will feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ display with curved edges, a 50-megapixel main rear camera with OIS, a 5,000mAh battery and support for 33W wired charging. Similar to most modern Motorola phones, the Moto G85 will flaunt a vegan leather finish on its back. While it will feature Android 14 out of the box, Motorola could also give it a couple of Gen-AI features.
