With the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G, rest assured every shot you take is an iconic one

For two weeks, we snapped away with the flagship of the newly launched Redmi Note 13 Series — here’s what we think.

Leading up to the new year, Xiaomi announced its plans to release a new line-up within its beloved sub-brand Redmi — the Redmi Note 13 Series — and also periodically teased its would-be ambassador for Southeast Asia (SEA). A month ago, Lifestyle Asia KL had the chance to witness the official global launch of the smartphone series in Bangkok, Thailand and meet the SEA ambassador himself upfront: none other than BamBam of K-pop group GOT7.

Within the Xiaomi family, the Redmi series has always stood out for its affordable yet powerful devices. Sleek, slim design; stunning screen display; amazing battery life — all of that without breaking the bank. Here, we’re going to look specifically at the photography experience. The new Redmi Note 13 Pro+ boasts a crystal clear, ultra-high resolution 200MP camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS). This means that it’s able to capture every detail of the photo’s subject, whether you’re zooming in or taking a wide shot.

Day or night, always an iconic shot with Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G

For the next few days in bright and sunny Bangkok, I got to work snapping photos with the flagship smartphone of the newly launched line-up: the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G. We got to visit some of the most iconic spots in Bangkok including The Grand Palace, as well as popular night markets Jodd Fairs and Asiatique the Riverfront. All throughout the day, the light was extremely harsh and dazzling — which worried me a little, in case my photos might turn out overexposed.

But it turns out I had nothing to worry about. The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ camera comes with a 7P lens with Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), which reduces flare and ghosting. Against the bright blue sky, the colours of The Grand Palace turned out beautiful — all thanks to the end-to-end P3 colour gamut, which offers a wider colour space and creates photos that look the same within the camera’s viewfinder as it does on the display.

Fancy a little night photography? Fret not! With the Tetra² pixel imbued in the camera of the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ (advanced pixel-binning technology) — as well as the large size of 1/1.4” and super-large f/1.65 aperture — low-light photos are made bright and clear, even under conditions of low light. This made taking photos at the night markets a total breeze, and I was pleasantly surprised with how the shots turned out.

Final verdict?

There’s a lot to look forward to with the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G that goes beyond the camera. For one, the battery life impressed me a lot. I’d brought a power bank just in case, but even after snapping away for most of the day and being in the hot sun, I still had a long way to go before the phone’s battery would be out — and this is just after one full charge. Of course, this is thanks to the 120W HyperCharge with 5000mAh battery that comes with the smartphone. On top of that, editing my photos and videos is incredibly satisfying because of the sharp AMOLED display of 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz AdaptiveSync refresh rate. Scrolling couldn’t be any smoother.

For its retailing price — RM1,999 for 12GB+512GB and RM1,599 for 8GB+216GB — the phone is definitely worth getting, especially if you’re a photography whiz. (I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.)
