5 acting roles that define Hun Haqeem

Hun Haqeem is now six years into his acting journey, and he has already made it big for himself in the world of showbiz. Here, five of his best-known acting roles to get to know him.

Hun Haqeem, Lifestyle Asia KL’s June cover star, is currently one of the buzziest Gen-Zers in the entertainment industry. In just under a decade, he has made his mark in the acting scene with some memorable roles, as well as a few very underrated ones. During his cheeky, ‘bad boy’ era, he played Dini in the drama Ulya & Dini, whom Shaza Bae’s Ulya — and the rest of the female population in Malaysia — couldn’t help but fall for. There’s also his unforgettable stint in the horror series Nenek Bongkok Tiga, where he played up the fear a little too convincingly. And who can forget when his good-natured character Imam Asyraf went head-to-head with Mierul Aiman’s fiery Ronaldo in Imam Instant Ustazah Scammer?

Five roles to get to know Hun Haqeem:

#1. Aliff Hadi in W: Two Worlds

Hun’s most recent drama — and also the one that, in my opinion, truly showcased his range as an actor — is the local adaptation of the popular K-drama W: Two Worlds, in which he portrayed Aliff Hadi, the main character of a fictional webtoon. The first episode opens with a twist: Aliff nearly reaches the end of his life, but he is not able to uncover his would-be killer — until the mysterious arrival of a girl not from his universe. What follows is a riveting ride of action, thriller and romance as the pair work to unravel the truth.

Hun stars alongside Daiyan Trisha, Mierul Aiman, Faizal Hussein and more. W: Two Worlds is available to watch on Viu Malaysia here.

#2. Jaafar in Kampung People (Seasons 1-2)

Of course, we mustn’t forget the role that first brought Hun out into the spotlight. Kampung People is a fun, enjoyable and at times ridiculous romp of a comedy series that revolves around a family from the city who has to undergo a Witness Protection Program after an unfortunate incident, by promptly moving to the countryside and disguising themselves as villagers — or, well, ‘kampung people’. In this comedy series, Hun portrays the sweet and well-meaning village boy Jaafar who forms a bond with city girl Laila, played by Reina Diana. The series carries very similar vibes to the Canadian sitcom Schitt’s Creek — both incredibly funny, and heartwarming!

Kampung People first aired on TV3 from December 2019 to January 2020 for its first season, and was renewed for its second season in September 2020.

#3. Luqman in Angkara Cinta

Angkara Cinta was perhaps the drama that got the public talking about Hun, as it was his first lead role in a drama series. A melodramatic take on the classic tale of The Prince and the Pauper in which two characters who share the same name (played by Hun and Meerqeen) and grew up in startlingly different backgrounds, the series is riddled with multiple twists over the course of its run. Family secrets are uncovered, friendships are tested and at the centre of it all, a love triangle.

Angakara Cinta first aired on Astro Prima from November 2020 to April 2021.

#4. Raja Akid in Chinta Wrong Direction

The role that perhaps solidified Hun as a quintessential romantic hero of his generation is perhaps the conflicted and distrustful yet totally swoon-worthy Raja Akid in Chinta Wrong Direction. Opposite Erysha Emyra’s Chinta, Hun is the perfect example of the ‘dream husband’, and there’s no doubt his fans fell even more in love with him as the series progressed.

Chinta Wrong Direction first aired on Astro Ria from June to July 2023.

#5. ‘Soloz’ in Game of Life

The much-anticipated Game of Life will be a brand new adventure that Hun will take on. The film will chronicle the life of Malaysian online gamer and streamer Muhammad Faris Zakaria, or ‘Soloz’ as he goes by online (whom Hun is set to play) as he rose to global fame through the online game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. It will be Hun’s first time portraying a real-life person, and the amount of preparation and training he has put himself through for the role is only making us more excited for the film!

Game of Life is set to release early 2025 in theatres, so be sure to keep an eye out for it!
