Sabato De Sarno takes the Gucci Cruise 2025 to London’s Tate Modern — showcasing his latest collection for the House.
“Fashion design is a means to study, explore, interpret. After having expressed my ideas of desirability and sensuality, this is another piece of me, more romantic, more contradictory. I like taking something that we think we know and breaking away from its rules, taking it as far as it can go, without ever distorting it. Bringing it towards its opposite and finding harmony,” Sabato De Sarno on the inspiration behind Gucci Cruise 2025 collection.
Since his arrival at the Italian fashion house, the young Creative Director has imbued his very own vision into Gucci; fusing with its brand codes and DNA. Gucci’s heritage, one that has spanned more than 100 years, needs no introduction. From the days of Guccio Gucci and Aldo Gucci to Tom Ford and Alessandro Michele, the world has seen and witnessed the House’s evolution. The Gucci Cruise 2025 show continues that story — now illustrated through the vivid lens of De Sarno himself.
The show at Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall shines a light on juxtaposition and dichotomy. On the runway, models appeared in hand-assembled laser-cut organza, gabardine-equipped short coats and lace outerwear among others. A quick glance highlights a sense of practicality in the pieces, allowing alluring movement and liveliness from every direction. From suede jackets and a full Ancora set to angel-like silhouettes, the Gucci Cruise 2025 collection shines in a myriad of forms.
A key standout in the collection is the Gucci Blondie bag – a 1970s icon revived for the new zeitgeist. The bag now comes in toile or leather; characterised by its interlocking G archival detail. The Blondie comes in the following versions: Top Handle, Bucket, Tote and Shoulder. To add flair to the occasion, Debbie Harry of renowned rock band Blondie was in attendance in London among a star-studded guest list which also includes Davika Hoorne, Lee Know, Alia Bhatt, Dua Lipa and Zhang Ling He.
