Our July cover star, established actress and fellow foodie — Eyka Farhana — shares her favourite makan spots in KL.
A little-known fact about Eyka Farhana is that she loves her food. When you first meet Eyka, food is not something you would associate with the impeccably chic actress. But, in her own sister’s words, there is nothing Eyka does not eat. And of course we at Lifestyle Asia KL had to get the ‘Eyka Farhana dining experience’! We managed to check with the actress for her list of five must-eat restaurants in KL.
1. Cili Kampung, Hartamas
Eyka loves her spicy Malay food and her go-to for a hearty meal is Cili Kampung. “I love going there because of its hearty good food that feels like home and when you eat it at the restaurant itself, you feel like you’re actually in a kampung!” she shares. Her must-have dishes at Cili Kampung include all the different masak lemak and masak cili padi from the kampung-style restaurant.
2. Park Grill
When she’s craving oysters and steak, her go-to is Park Grill at Platinum Park. Odd combo we must say but she seems to know what she’s doing when it comes to food. “I’m not a big fan of raw food but I do try it here and there,” she tells us. “The only raw food I crave for would be oysters and the ones there are very fresh!”
#3 Shell Out
When it comes to seafood, Eyka points us to Shell Out. When a seafood craving hits, the actress can be found at Shell Out, Publika. “Imagine the beautifully cooked seafood across the table and you get to chow down with your hands without feeling shy!” she laughs. She is a huge fan of under-the-sea delectables as she continues to tell us about her other seafood haunt, “You know when I have a late night craving for seafood, I would also head over to Jalan Alor and try out any one of the restaurants there for fresh seafood in the middle of the night!” she adds.
#4 Ayam Gepuk Pak Gembus
Eyka is no stranger to Indonesian cuisine. After a three-month stay in Bali, she has become an Indo-cuisine connoisseur. “When I was in Indonesia, I could eat Ayam Gepuk everyday!” she states. We aren’t surprised considering her love for the hot and spicy! “Ayam Gepuk Pak Gembus is a must!” she declares. “They have different levels for spiciness there and I always go for extra spicy.”
#5 Nasi Kandar Pelita
When speaking to her about her love for food, we were waiting for Nasi Kandar Pelita to come up. If you haven’t noticed, a recurring theme of her favourite spots to eat comprises simple and easy-to-make dishes. Despite her always-on-point look, Eyka truly is a no-frills type of girl when it comes to food. Her go-to order at Nasi Kandar Pelita? Nasi kuah banjir with ikan goreng.
