The face of Chopard lends her design prowess to the collection.
Inspired by the geometric shapes and rock ’n’ roll spirit of Chopard’s Ice Cube collection and the idea of the ethical jewellery, French actress Marion Cotillard designed eight haute joaillerie creations in Fairmined-certified 18k ethical yellow gold and diamonds meeting the best international criteria.
She elaborates, “Chopard has accompanied me since my debut as an actress and I share Caroline Scheufele’s commitment to ethics, so this new collaboration is a great way to further strengthen the ties between us”.
This led to the birth of the Ice Cube Capsule by Marion Cotillard, comprising a ring and seven earrings. A long-time friend of the movie star and Co-President and Artistic Director of Chopard, Caroline Scheufele, left the artistic direction of the project entirely to Cotillard while ensuring that the maison provided the responsibly mined precious materials and the technical support of the artisans to produce the pieces.
She adds, “Marion Cotillard is very creative and all our discussions on this project have been extremely inspiring. By bringing her interpretation to our Ice Cube collection, she is inventing a contemporary and relaxed way to wear diamonds. It is a great pleasure to combine her ideas with our expertise in the realm of ethical jewellery”.
The design reprises the graphic yet elegantly minimalist aesthetic of the Ice Cube collection, featuring small faceted cubes and versatile pieces that can be worn solo or stacked. For an edgier look and feel, the actress injected more boldness with the introduction of asymmetry to the pieces.
Made to be worn as part of a mix-and-match game, the earrings in the capsule collection are all different yet complementary. One side features a series consisting of two connected gold rings to wear on the top of the ear, followed by a diamond-set counterpart. A square princess-cut solitaire diamond adorns the lobe. On the other ear is a new combination of three rings connected via the back of the ear, each set with a small diamond.
The final earring on the lobe is a cascade of generous princess-cut diamonds, totalling 17.76 carats, in a setting that covers most of the underlying gold. The best part: All these ear jewels have been designed as clips as Cotillard intends them for non-pierced ears such as her own. A ring composed of an offset 1.52-carat princess-cut diamond on a pair of gold bands completes the collection.
