The art of tea drinking is no child’s play in Taiwan, the country that originated the ever-popular bubble tea, also known affectionately as boba. The Taiwanese-founded KEBUKE has finally made its way to Singapore with its intricate tea brews that will change your mind about the typical hand-shaken beverage.
KEBUKE has opened its first outlet in Singapore at Taste Orchard. The store also features a limited seating area, which allows shoppers to take a break from retail therapy. On display are merchandise from KEBUKE, currently only available in their Taiwan outlets.
Why drink KEBUKE?
Established in Taichung in 2018, KEBUKE has since grown to be one of the top three bubble tea chain brands in Taiwan. Its name stems from the Taiwanese saying, “Are you thirsty?”, signifying it aims to quench all thirst for bubble tea with its brews. Before opening in Singapore, KEBUKE also has a presence in Hong Kong with a store.
KEBUKE teas aren’t hastily concocted. With a mission to be its best, it dedicates immense research and development to creating signature tastes unique to the brand. Measurements for tea are calculated right down to the gram. Also, instead of a generic brew for each cup, each drink is precisely calibrated according to specific chosen sugar and ice levels. This is to ensure the ideal quality of its bubble tea.
All KEBUKE teas are freshly brewed daily, with new batches rebrewed every four hours for the best freshness and flavour. All tea is stored in thermal flasks of smaller volume than the industry average to maintain such freshness. Furthermore, they hold only 4L (10 cups) of tea at any time.
KEBUKE’s representative drink is the Signature Black Tea (M: $3.20, L: $4.20) and Black Tea Latte (M: $4.90, L: $5.60), which uses a special blend of two tea varieties for added complexity and fragrance.
Here are the Singapore-exclusive KEBUKE bubble tea drinks to try:
Biscoff Black Tea Latte (M: S$5.60)
Those with a sweet tooth who crave something creamy can consider the Biscoff Black Tea Latte. With a Sri Lankan black tea base, the drink is lined with a generous layer of Biscoff biscuit spread. Stir the sides of the cups before consumption to get a buttery crunch with every sip.
Rice Oolong Tea (Exclusive for both Singapore and Hong Kong) – LSA Recommends (M: S$3.20, L: S$4.20)
The fragrant floral and earthy notes from the top-grade Oolong tea pair well with the roasted rice’s nutty flavour. This clean-tasting drink makes an ideal refreshing choice on a sweltering day.
Rice Oolong Milk Tea (M: S$4.70, L: S$5.40)
The addition of milk to the Rice Oolong Tea results in an enriched sweet creaminess to the drink. The nutty notes turn mellow in comparison to the version without milk.
Proton Fruit Tea Series (M from $5.80, L from $6.40)
This unique drink uses fresh seasonal fruits for the fruit ice cubes. These cubes are made using KEBUKE’s exclusive Proton Freezing technique, which preserves the nutrients and flavours of fruits. The melting ice cubes will not dilute the drink, resulting in a full-flavoured experience.
To enjoy, tea is poured over the fruit cubes, which are then stirred up to release melted fruit and flavour into a fruit tea slushie concoction, making it a perfect thirst quencher.
