Megah Rise Mall food guide: Where to eat, what to order

Wondering where you should eat and what you should order when visiting Taman Megah’s latest shopping address? Here are some of the best spots in Megah Rise Mall for food.

Located in Kepong and bordering Segambut, you will find yourself amid a lush setting comprised of middle-class families living out their days in two-storey terraced homes. A local wet market caters to matronly figures of all ages for grocery runs, while shoplots that stretch closest to the highway house all manner of services, as well as several well-loved eateries.

First established in the mid-1980s, Taman Megah remains almost otherwise unchanged in its topography, remaining popular among domestic nuclear units for its ease of access to the greater Klang Valley area, while being far-flung enough to avoid the city centre crowds. Development was first spearheaded by the Hong Leong Group and UOA Group, with many of the two-storey landed homes remaining highly coveted to this day.

But it wouldn’t be until 2018, with the launch of the Megah Rise project, did the neighbourhood witness a fresh chapter in its development. Completed in late 2022, the 39-storey mixed-use tower stands as Taman Megah’s lone skyscraper, which comes complete with a community-centric neighbourhood mall that occupies the base of its structure.

While it is by no means meant to compete with new upmarket retail addresses, Megah Rise Mall’s relative success has been well-noted, especially given the fickle nature of more recent commercial projects. This is naturally bolstered by its surprisingly varied tenant mix, especially where food is concerned. Whether your cravings lean towards handmade pasta, Chinese stewed fish, or even fresh bagels galore, you’ll find it all conveniently parked under a single roof. All that is left is to settle on a time and place.

Staple Dough

In the modern layman’s context, pasta denotes mealtime convenience from a plastic bag, ready to be consumed upon being blanched in scalding hot water. But that does a massive disservice to the craft, which in the Old Country, takes on a more involved process, as the people at Staple Dough will attest to. All manner of pasta varieties are handmade in-house here, from chubby ribbons of tagliolini to flat swathes of pappardelle.

Talk of Chinese food and a few dishes are immediately called to the forefront, typically consisting of dimsum, hand-pulled la mien noodles, or your typical assortment of wok-fried dishes. However, more regional specialties such as Chinese stewed fish, have steadily garnered more attention among conventional diners outside of the Mainland. Mama’s Bun and Stewed Fish takes up the role as a steward of such novel Chinese fare through their signature stewed dishes, prepared on a bubbling stovetop recessed in every table with fresh meats and fish slices, paired with fluffy buns.

East meets West in a complementary combination of influences, techniques, and most importantly, compatible flavours at Cincin. Taking after its slogan to ‘wine, dine, and chill’, diners are encouraged to settle in and leave their troubles at the door, starting with their surprisingly well-stocked inventory of beers and wines. Following this act is the food, which while somewhat ho-hum, still manages to satisfy the average palate with its use of consistently fresh ingredients.
