Tim Hortons is officially opening its first stores in Malaysia this August

Donut despair if you’re running out of new places to keep your sweet tooth cravings at bay, as a beloved name is set to make its debut on Malaysian shores: Tim Hortons!

Renowned the world over for its delectably fluffy donuts as well as quality grab-and-go coffee beverages, the brand found great success in both its home market of Canada and neighbouring North America, before expanding into other regions including in the Middle East and Asia. As for its Southeast Asian debut, the brand first made waves in the Philippines in 2017 before subsequently expanding to Thailand in 2020. Malaysia will be joining Singapore as one of the newest markets for Tim Hortons.

Alongside their usual plethora of baked goods and cups of Joe brewed with sustainably sourced Arabica Beans, expect savoury brunch bites that take the form of their signature Sourdough Melts and Pasta Bakes for those with more considerable appetites. And for those who enjoy their coffee with a sugary note, fret not as the franchise will also be bringing their beloved Signature Lattes and Iced Capp drinks in their iconic Maple and French Vanilla guises, perfect to counter sweltering Malaysian afternoons.

With that said, it’s not just staple items that will be featured on their inaugural Malaysian menu, as Tim Hortons has also prepared a number of new items that have been specifically curated for the local market. However, specifics remain scant as of writing, with the brand keeping mum on further details as to where their debut outlets are located, and when in August they will be unveiled.

According to a statement released by the brand’s press communications partners, Tim Hortons is expected to introduce two outlets in Malaysia to start, with an aggressive expansion plan set in place to bolster numbers in the hundreds within the next few years. This will join their already considerable tally of over 5,800 outlets internationally from across 13 different countries.

Initially founded in Canada by ice hockey player Tim Horton back in 1964 as a diner-styled restaurant serving hamburgers, the brand would later evolve with a focus on donuts and coffee specifically. Through this decision, the brand grew under the guidance of Ron Joyce, who assumed ownership of the brand upon Horton’s passing in 1974. Today, it is owned by Toronto-based holding company Restaurant Brands International.
