Art of Canton

It’s no surprise that Hongkongers love travelling to Japan and Art of Canton combines the best of both worlds. That is classic Cantonese cuisine with the “delicateness” of the Japanese cooking style. Art of Canton also specialises in fish maw dishes which is a classic favourite among local diners. Besides its mouth-watering specialities, the interior is also worth the awe. The design draws inspiration from the Yoshida Fire Festival to mimic the elegant ambience. The entrance also features a show kitchen with a grill counter resembling the iconic form of Mount Fuji. Look up and you’ll marvel at the lantern-shaped chandelier just above the lavish banquette setting.

And for the artistic creations, don’t miss the signature dishes such as Stuffed Crab Shell or Crispy Soft Shell Crab. There’s also the classic Braised Fish Maw as well as Steamed Pork and Shrimp Dumplings with Hong Kong-styled spicy sauce.

Banchan & Cook

Banchan (반찬) refers to the small side dishes in Korean cuisine. It’s a staple and one that completes the meal. This light meal restaurant uplifts the humble banchan and adds a modern twist. Banchan traces its roots back to the Korean royal court and has since become an important part of Korean cuisine. A meal here feels like you’ve been transported to the bustling streets of Seoul while its natural wood decoration is as inviting as can be.

Those with a penchant for sweets will love the croffle which comes in various flavours. Otherwise, dig into the usual Korean fried chicken, and creations with a contemporary spin. The Kimchi Risotto with Fried Chicken Chop features an explosion of flavours while the Tteobokki with Parma Ham and Carbonara Sauce is a creamier option than the usual. Classic dishes such as mandu (dumplings), gimbap (rice roll), and galbi (beef short ribs) are also available.

This restaurant is the third of ‘House’ following Glasshouse and Townhouse. Like its namesake, these ‘houses’ are built to suit different people’s needs and, in this case, it’s food. Greenhouse uses the concept of ‘Asian cuisine with a Western twist’ and boasts quite a menu. Firstly, you’ll be greeted with almost 10 pages of beverage options ranging from healthy smoothies to refreshing tea and boozy spirits. Then, there are the snacks which come in small bites but packed with flavour. Sample the likes of Crispy Shrimp Rice Paper Roll to Keep “Calms” & Flex “Mussels” as well as Waffle Fries with Bacon Bites.

The skewers are also plentiful with the usual beef satay to a healthier portobello mushroom. Of course, they also have soup and salad to savour up a plate full of nutrients. Or opt for the classic staple of burgers and sandwiches or pizza fresh from the oven. There’s also pasta and noodles as well as rice dishes before getting to the main dishes, which are perfect for sharing. End on a sweet note with a delicious dessert. We’re not kidding—there are more than 100 dishes available here so you always have an excuse to come back for more.

At the helm is chef Andy Lau who has 20 years of experience in Japanese, Shanghainese, and Cantonese culinary styles. He interprets classic Shanghainese and Huaiyang dishes using familiar ingredients such as goose, duck, and beef with new additions like pomfret, abalone, and sea cucumber. Pan de Pain

When talking about pancakes, one simply can’t ignore Pan de Pain. After all, it is the first souffle pancake shop in Hong Kong. The Times Square outlet elevates the dining experience even further by employing a design concept that recreates the feeling of being in Japan. The dining area harkens back to a traditional pavilion of the Edo period with its wooden lattice doors and windows. But of course, the real showstopper is the Japanese-style pancakes made with premium ingredients straight from Japan.

Savour the fluffy deliciousness of the pancakes made fresh using premium flour and 3.6milk from Japan. The result is a smoothness like no other complete with the distinct smell of vanilla. The pancakes also come with a range of toppings such as fresh fruits, or you can even go as simple as just honey and butter. If you don’t like pancakes, opt for the French toast or other savoury options available. Besides pancakes, diners can also try Japanese soba, croquettes, and even baked souffle curry chicken rice.

Penna • Moon Garden

Penna • Moon Garden follows in the footsteps of the restaurant’s first location in Taikoo Shing and is now bringing modern, homestyle Italian cuisine to Causeway Bay. Celebrity chef Ken Lau still offers his signature homemade pasta and other meaty entrees that all pay homage to authentic Italian family recipes. The Causeway Bay outpost also turns things up a notch by having its own spacious outdoor terrace, which serves as a hidden urban oasis for diners to enjoy a comforting meal.

The restaurant has a dedicated a la carte, lunch, brunch, and dinner set menu so regardless of when diners come, there’s always something delicious waiting. The fresh oysters and seafood platter is a must. If you’re up for it, the Roasted Italian Escargot is quite something while the Roasted Bone Marrow with Baked Oyster is an interesting choice. Indulge in the range of pasta from classic carbonara to lavish Fettucini with Sea Urchin. Or opt for a creamy risotto instead with options such as Lobster or Confit Duck Leg.
