The most romantic bars in Singapore for the ideal Valentine’s date

Nothing lubricates a date like alcohol, and these romantic bars in Singapore will get pulses rising.

But what defines a romantic bar? Is it dark corners and curtained privacy? Drinks that are both intriguing and strong? Or is it nostalgia for a bygone era, maybe an archaic pursuit?

These bars in Singapore cover all three angles. There is Atlas, where gin and classic cocktails meet under a stunning Art Deco ceiling. Barbary Coast Ballroom pays tribute to the boudoirs of yesteryears with secluded nooks and a champagne button. From Manhattan, the glitz and glamour of Broadway are transformed into seductively boozy drinks, which are best consumed in the bar’s deep sofas.

Other romantic bars in Singapore include Gibson, which joyfully expresses its love for Asian ingredients in classic cocktails. Origin evokes the glamour of travel through drinks that mark historic occasions, backed by plenty of humour. RPM by D.Bespoke may not have the glory of its sister destination, but it more than makes up for it with a dedication to vinyl records. Then head to Writers Bar, which is extremely passionate about the written word, and proves that brains are just as sexy. Discover them below.

Where to find the best romantic bars in Singapore

1 /7

Atlas

Based solely on its stunning Art Deco interior, Atlas gets a big tick in the romantic bar category. But the bar is more than just flash. The current Simple Pleasures cocktail menu offers subtle yet thought-provoking tweaks to classic cocktails such as the Martini, and the stated ABV contents empower consumers to make informed choices. Alternatively, choose a gin from the bar’s 1,300-strong collection, have it in a G&T, and nibble on refined mod-European cuisine.

Barbary Coast is inspired by the madams that ran the famous ballrooms of San Francisco’s red light district, recreated here with deep alcoves shielded by velvet drapes, including two equipped with a “press for champagne” button. Minutes later, a bottle appears without having to break the conversation with your date. The other offerings are just as sultry, from the velvety Raspberries & Cream cocktail to the impressive cheeseboards.

Gibson

Gibson remakes classic cocktails with Asia in mind, and they do it without reaching for well-worn cliches. Take sugarcane juice, which is fermented into a wine and accented by cachaca. The namesake cocktail features sake-based vermouth that seamlessly blends in waves of umami flavour. Visiting Gibson also gives you the chance to explore its sister concepts in the same building like the midcentury modern Japanese bar, Live Twice, and the sleek seafood bistro, Humpback.

Origin Bar

The best spot for a tryst at Origin Bar is the recesses of one of the three dark nooks that can be curtained off for more privacy. Complementing the train travel-inspired interior are 20 cocktails that mark monumental events in history, from the creation of chewing gum – the drink even comes with one – to the invention of the atomic bomb, recreated here as a bubble that pops in a puff of smoke.

Manhattan

Dimly lit with seductively boozy drinks: Manhattan has all the right ingredients for a date-night spot. New York remains the central element here, and the city’s iconic Broadway theatre district offers inspiration for its latest cocktail menu. For a uniquely Manhattan experience, pick drinks from The Backstage section, which features cocktails aged in the bar’s famed rickhouse.
