30 years later, ASICS brings back the SKYHAND™ OG sneakers for its SportStyle lineup

Here’s everything you need to know about the revival of the ASICS SKYHAND™ OG sneakers, now available in Malaysia.

From the GEL-KAYANO™ and EX89 collections to the GT-2160 series, Japanese lifestyle brand ASICS has always been at the forefront of style and creativity. Combining its DNA in athletic wear with contemporary designs, the brand continues to excite enthusiasts around the world — be it with its apparel or footwear. This year, ASICS is looking deep into its very own archives with the unveiling of the SKYHAND™ OG sneakers.

First unveiled in 1994, the revival of the iconic shoes under the ASICS SportStyle umbrella coincides with its 30th anniversary. Three decades later, a whole new generation of fashion aficionados get to experience the joyful and energetic spirit that the SKYHAND™ OG sneakers — still embodying the essence of the beloved handball shoes — brings to the table (and feet, of course). Equipped with the latest innovations in cushioning and materials, the SKYHAND™ OG sneakers are made for everyday lifestyles.

Sole, what’s different with the 2024 version of the SKYHAND™ OG sneakers? Well, the design team at ASICS has adorned the sneakers with FLYTEFOAM™ PROPEL and an EVA heel wedge. These additions help to enhance comfort levels when you wear them while highlighting its minimalist aesthetic. The low-profile and slim sneakers pay homage to the predecessor by following the very shape of the original release.

With this comeback chapter, the SKYHAND™ OG sneakers come in not one but two models. In the ASICS SportStyle umbrella, you will find a version comprising synthetic leather paneling and suede details on the upper construction whereas the other consists of synthetic leather ASICS stripes and heel tabs on a suede body. All versions come with a sleek gum sole, whether you choose the green-purple, purple-yellow, black-grey or the white-yellow colourways.

As seen on content creator Kelvin Yap and actor Shaza Bae, the SKYHAND™ OG sneakers are as versatile as they get. The shoes can be worn with a myriad of styles, be it with a cool blazer or a sleek pattern-filled dress. This is your invitation to complement your personal aesthetics with the illustrious charm of the newly-unveiled sneakers.

Looking for a new pair of sneakers to add to your footwear collection? With its retro silhouette and modern vivacity, the ASICS SKYHAND™ OG sneakers — priced at RM449 per pair — is definitely a worthy contender. From 26 to 28 July 2024 (12PM – 10PM), head over to The Gasket Alley for ASICS Malaysia’s takeover where you can see and feel the SKYHAND™ OG sneakers up close. You might even win yourself a pair of ASICS SportStyle sneakers.
