Whether it’s a sporty or dressy affair, the new Tissot Seastar 40mm models are for all time

The line-up of the Tissot Seastar 40mm has just gotten extended — and now includes the Powermatic 80 movement in its collection of five new models.

As its name suggests, the Tissot Seastar was created for sport enthusiasts and divers in mind, made to be resilient as it would be reliable. But if we were to trace back the iconic Seastar decades before it officially took shape, the Maison first toyed with water-resistant timepieces through the collections ‘Camping’ in 1938 and ‘Aquasport’ in 1939. On top of being anti-magnetic (and thus, extremely accurate) they were also shockproof, impervious to dust, and equipped with a stainless-steel case and unbreakable glass.

Unsurprisingly, the Seastar collection was met with great success — bringing forth models for both men and women. After the Seastar Family was born in the 1950s (comprising icons such as Seastar T12 with a depth up to 12 atmospheres; Seastar Seven with its thinner case; and Seastar Quartz), the Seastar evolved and turned into a diving-style watch with many exciting variations.

And just this month, Tissot has announced the launch of a much-anticipated Seastar extension, which includes the Powermatic 80 movement. All five models feature a stunning vertically-brushed dial that fades to black towards the edges, giving an overall enhanced gradient effect and texture — with each equipped with a unidirectional steel bezel with a colour-printed mineral glass ring.

Sporty yet assertive in its new looks, the extended Tissot collection has a subtly updated casing: a notch along its edges makes for a more compact and sophisticated appearance. Two of the models share the same stainless-steel case and bracelet design with different dial colours; one has a blue dial, while the other features a grey dial.

Another model carries a bi-colour case, enhanced with a yellow gold-PVD bezel and a black ring and is completed in a matching bi-colour bracelet. And the last two models are rather rare appearances for the Seastar collection — full black-PVD coated stainless steel case. One comes with a black tropic strap with a blue brushed dial, while the other is adorned with a grey brushed dial and sports a metallic all black bracelet.

Of course, not forgetting that the collection comes with water resistance up to 30 bar (300m) and improved visibility in dim conditions, all thanks to the Super-LumiNova® coated hands and hour markers. With the interchangeable strap system, you’ll be able to switch from ‘dressy’ to ‘sporty’ in no time — the black tropical strap stands out as a fresh addition for those with a more active lifestyle. Simply clip out the old for the new!
