At the recent Watches & Wonders, Hermès unveiled new creations — one of which is the Hermès Cut, playing with the language of geometry in its simplicity and elegance.
The circle is perhaps the most fundamental shape, yet often goes unnoticed for its simpleness. And on its own, a true original. Thus at the 2024 edition of Watches & Wonders, Hermès debuted the Hermès Cut: all sharp angles and crisply drawn lines that give it its own distinctive charm.
While glorifying the circle beyond its basic shape, the Hermès Cut is anything but basic. It features a seamless integrated-bracelet style for a snazzy touch. And the crown — where normally, one’s fingers would promptly reach for 3 o’clock — is boldly positioned at the top-right corner instead, at 1:30.
As for the case itself, the Hermès Cut certainly delivers. All versions of the Hermès Cut come with the same meticulously shaped or cut cushion case. Whether in all-steel or in an elegant two-tone combination of steel and rose gold (with 56 bezel-set diamonds or without) the watch no doubt asserts its versatile and timeless personality. The crown is also embellished with a lacquered or engraved H — marking its one-of-a-kind quality.
The Hermès Cut elevates the circle, playing with light and shimmer. The bezel, bevel-cut, frames a dial with a curved edge. Across this opaline silver-toned dial with its grey- and orange-accented minutes track, a unique embossed font brightens up the time read-off. Polished, phosphorescent and partly openworked, the elegant baton-shaped hour and minute hands sweep over the dial. The large seconds hand bears a luminous dot.
The Hermès Cut is powered by a Manufacture Hermès H1912 movement that can be observed through a sapphire crystal caseback. The integrated metal bracelet features supple links with a rounded profile. On top of that, a rubber strap is also available in a range of eight colours drawn from the classic Hermès palette: white, orange, gris perle, gris étain, glycine, vert criquet, bleu jean and capucine.
Embodied in a perfectly unisex 36mm size, no doubt the Hermès Cut is a classic to come and truly a show of understated elegance at the 2024 Watches & Wonders.
