The veteran Korean actor, who grabbed global limelight for award-winning movies like Parasite and Snowpiercer, is back to spreading his magic and how. Episode 15 of the May 2024 K-drama begins with Kim San (played by Byun Yo-han) and Uncle Samsik (played by Song Kang-ho) planning to bring down Kang Seong-min (played by Lee Kyu-hyung), thereby clearing the road for Kim San to become the next Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, episode 16 takes audiences to the Capital Defense Command where soldiers receive care packages from an unknown importer. On the other hand, prosecutors arrest Park Ji-wook (played by Choo Sang-rok) on charges of bribery as per Uncle Samsik’s plan. The latter further instigates and plants proof for Hong Young-ki (played by Ryu Sung-hyun) to arrest Major General Min Soo-chul (played by Jo Ha-seok) of the Captain Defense Unit for espionage.

Written and directed by Dongju fame Shin Yeon-shick, Uncle Samsik follows an ambitious duo in 1960s South Korea who try to navigate the complexities of the established system and fight for a prosperous future for their country.
Throwing light on his latest project, Shin said in a 2024 press conference (via TheKoreaTimes), “I’ve been living in Korea for over 40 years but I find it unfamiliar and difficult to adapt. I’ve always been curious about the society I live in and the people making up that society. I also wanted to explore the origins of the people who formed present-day Korea and this was the perfect timing. Some may see ‘Uncle Samsik’ as a historical drama and others might see it as film noir, but to me, it’s a romance story.”
Additionally, Song Kang-ho, who will be seen entertaining small-screen audiences for the first time, expressed excitement about his debut drama. He said, “I came to join this series naturally. I’ve talked about this with the director, but ‘Uncle Samsik’ is different from many streaming service series that are trending now. So, it could feel more adventurous and refreshing. That triggered my curiosity and enthusiasm, which led me to this point.”
