Inside Out 2 is winning the worldwide box office and is also making waves among astrology lovers, with many trying to match the ’emotions’, or characters, in the movie to their probable zodiac signs.
The Pixar film, which was released on 14 June 2024, deals with the protagonist’s emotions as she copes with all the changes that come with adolescence. This film follows Riley (voiced by Kensington Tallman) as she enters her teenager years and is eager to start high school. The existing emotions in her head, namely joy, sadness, disgust, fear and anger, meet four new emotions and thus begins a unique adventure. As of July, Inside Out 2 is the highest-grossing movie of 2024 and the highest-grossing animated movie of all time.
Astrologically, with four new feelings, it would certainly be interesting to look at which of those emotions is closest to which sun sign. So, here is how the emotions match with the zodiacs.
Inside Out 2 characters’ emotions and their similar zodiacs
Joy — Leo
Voiced by Amy Poehler, Joy is an incandescent spirit of positivity that one needs to get through with challenges of life. The emotion of Joy gives Riley hope for a better future and the strength to deal with her present. She is also a good leader as she effectively tries to manage all the other emotions from overpowering Riley’s mind.
The fixed fire sign of Leo displays all these traits as it is ruled by the Sun, which gives life, energy and optimism to all the beings on Earth. This royal sign is a fair and just leader in every sense and is also known for its generosity, which is one of the most amazing traits of Joy.
Anxiety — Cancer
Cancer is a zodiac sign ruled by the Moon, which depicts the inner world of the mind. Cancers overthink and over-love. Anxiety (voiced by Maya Hawke) is one of the new emotions introduced in the movie as Riley enters the confusing and overwhelming adolescent age.
She takes over her entire being and tries to tamper with her self-worth by making her imagine unrealistic, negative scenarios. The crustacean water sign natives also tend to behave in this way and need to be calmed down quite often.
Disgust — Libra
Disgust (voiced by Liza Lapira) is Riley’s old emotion, which displays a protective attitude towards Riley and helps her through her social interactions. She also aids her to see what is beneath people’s facade. Libra is a perfect sign to describe this emotion because they have high levels of social intelligence and are smart enough to see through people but do not necessarily confront them with anger.
Correct in her opinions, a tad vain and charming in her appeal, this Inside Out 2 characters emotions seem to match up well with Libran traits.
Anger — Aries
There is a straight correlation between Aries and Anger. This cardinal fire sign is ruled by Mars, which represents the god of anger, aggression and passion. Be it standing up for oneself or fighting their own battles, Aries dive in head-on. They are fuelled by zeal to achieve success and are known for their highly flammable temper.
Envy — Scorpio
This is one of the most complicated Inside Out 2 characters. One of the new emotions that Riley faces in her teenage, Envy (voiced by Ayo Edebiri) reflects the want to mirror someone’s life or a tinge of jealousy about someone else’s possessions or characteristics. The deep, dark and intuitive water sign of Scorpio is motivated by this emotion, which adds a grey shade to their characteristic traits.
Sadness — Virgo
Virgo is a stable earth sign ruled by the god of communication, Mercury. But instead of being upfront and vocal about their opinions, they internalise them, making them introverts. Sadness (voiced by Phyllis Smith) is sincere in her appeal, cares a lot about everything and is easily heartbroken at every loss Riley faces. Feeling low and festering in the same emotion is a characteristic trait of a Virgo native.
Fear — Gemini
Gemini is a social butterfly of the zodiac system that bites off more than they can chew. This comes out of their need to be everywhere, all the time. They constantly display the fear of missing out (FOMO) and want to be a part of everything in life. Fear (voiced by Tony Hale) displays similar tendencies.
Ennui — Aquarius
To put simply, Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos) is characterised by sassiness that comes out of boredom. One of the complex emotions to deal with for Riley, Ennui is often distant and not very interested in social interactions. This is quite similar to the highly intelligent yet aloof Aquarians. They feel like they are above the average day-to-day affairs and want to focus on bigger things.
The fact that Ennui participates only when she is requested to do so, or that she controls the main feelings consoles through an app on the phone, shows that she is revolutionary and ahead of everyone else.
Embarrassment — Pisces
Voiced by Paul Walter Hauser, Embarrassment knocks at Riley’s consciousness as she enters her teens. Shy and socially awkward, Embarrassment wants to stay hidden in a corner, away in his world where no one can reach him. This quality is kind of like a Piscean’s need to stay enclosed in their bubble and view the world through rose-tinted glasses.
